Overview

Creative Industries Network (CIN) at UBC creates a unique space for students to explore creative passions and career paths in industries like film, fashion, music, and design. Through industry nights, community showcases, and interactive workshops, CIN fosters a welcoming environment where students can learn, network, and be inspired.

The Challenge

When I joined CIN in 2024 as a Graphic Designer, I immediately noticed a disconnect: despite CIN’s popular mission and engaging programming, the club lacked visibility and brand recognition on campus.

  • Inconsistent colors, typography, and style on their Instagram profile

  • Basic, unengaging posts for event promotion

  • A lack of context to inform new viewers

The Process

Establishing a Consistent Brand Identity

I created a brand guide that introduced consistent colors, typography, and visual tone to reflect CIN’s creative, youthful, and professional personality.

Increasing On-Campus Visibility

To extend the brand beyond digital platforms, I designed sticker packs that students could put on laptops and water bottles, turning them into organic brand ambassadors.

Designing Engaging Digital Content

  • Edited and helped produce high quality Instagram reels and event teasers.

  • Created a motion graphics introduction reel that summarized CIN’s mission.

  • Designed cohesive and eye-catching graphics.

Scaling Events & Community

Now as President, I manage all planning and facilitation of our industry networking events with professionals from companies such as The Ordinary, Vancouver Fashion week, and Vancouver Film Studios.

By pairing strategic marketing with thoughtful UX-focused event design, we increased both in person attendance and digital engagement by over 200%!

Reflection

Through this experience, I learned how to merge design with marketing strategy to grow a brand and community:

  • Consistency in branding drives recognition and recall.

  • Small physical touchpoints (like stickers) can have a big impact on organic reach.

  • Scaling from a designer to a leadership role taught me the importance of stakeholder management, persuasion, and team collaboration.

This project gave me hands-on experience in rebranding, campaign design, and event marketing, skills I now apply in both business and UX contexts.
